people have been booked for allegedly attempting to abduct a
university student,
police said Monday. Vikas Verma, son of
state Parliamentary Affairs Minister Lalji Verma and his nephew Vineet Verma were amongst those accused of a bid to kidnap Santosh Yadav, a
student of
Lucknow University. A case was registered against them at the Hazratganj
police station late Sunday, an official said."The complainant, Santosh Yadav, has said that Vikas and about a dozen
men pulled him inside a
car and tried to kidnap him," Inspector A.S.

police station told IANS.The incident reportedly took place Saturday night when about a dozen
men in three
cars reached Yadav's
hostel, manhandled him and pulled him inside one of the
cars. But Yadav raised an alarm and the
vehicles were intercepted by the
police. While about 10
people managed to escape, three youths were arrested and Yadav was rescued."Those arrested have been identified as Shailendra, Manish and Anil and they have been sent to
jail. The
vehicles used in the incident have also been seized," said
Lucknow Superintendent of
Police Akhil Kumar.
Police have conducted raids at several
places to find the other accused."We have no idea whether Vikas was present there at the time of the incident. However, we are probing the matter on Yadav's
complaint,"
Chauhan added.The
university has announced that
students found involved in the incident would be suspended.--Indo-Asian
